Mission

 The Connectional AMEWIM 12th Quadrennial Conference seeks to equip clergy women to lead with excellence, integrity, and prophetic vision, ultimately contributing to the growth and impact of Kin-dom of God.

  

These outcomes collectively aim to create a ripple effect, strengthening individual ministries and ultimately contributing to the expansive growth and profound impact of God's Kin-dom on Earth through the empowered leadership of AME women in ministry.

Objectives

  Empowered and Effective Leaders

  • Increased      Leadership Capacity:     Attendees will demonstrate a measurable increase in their self-assessed      leadership competencies, including enhanced skills in team development,      emotional intelligence, and conflict resolution, leading to more effective      ministry in their contexts.
  • Strategic      Navigation: Clergy      will feel better equipped with practical tools and strategies to      confidently navigate complex challenges and seize new opportunities within      their leadership journeys.
  • Enhanced      Self-Awareness:     Participants will gain a deeper understanding of their own strengths,      leadership styles, and areas for growth, fostering greater self-awareness      that contributes to more authentic and impactful leadership.

  

Holistically Well Ministers

  • Renewed      Spiritual Vitality:     Attendees will experience spiritual renewal and a deepening of faith,      leading to greater resilience and passion for their calling.
  • Improved      Well-being Practices:     Attendees will adopt and implement effective self-care strategies and      emotional intelligence practices that contribute to their overall      spiritual, mental, and emotional well-being, reducing burnout and      fostering longevity in ministry.

  

Champions of Gender Justice

  • Heightened      Awareness of Disparities:     Participants will have an increased understanding of the impact of internalized      sexism.
  • Activated      Advocates: Participants      will be empowered to advocate for gender parity and challenge systemic      barriers, actively working towards creating a more equitable environment      for women in all levels of church leadership.

  

Stronger Connected Community

  • Expanded      Networks:     Attendees will establish robust professional and personal networks with      fellow clergy women across Episcopal Districts, leading to sustained      collaboration, mutual support, and resource sharing beyond the conference.
  • Vibrant      Sisterhood:     The conference will foster a strong sense of sisterhood and solidarity,      ensuring women feel valued, supported, and connected within a powerful and      prophetic movement.

  

Recognized and Celebrated Legacies

  • Deepened      Appreciation for Herstory:     Participants will gain a richer appreciation for the legacy and      contributions of trailblazing women in AME ministry, drawing inspiration      for their own paths.
  • Informed      Future Leaders:     Attendees will be well-informed about the historical context and ongoing      journey of women in ministry, enabling them to contribute meaningfully to      the future trajectory of clergy women's leadership in the Church Universal.

 Dr. McAllister answered the call to ministry in 1992. He was licensed to preach and admitted to the Northeast Annual Conference of the Seventh Episcopal District (South Carolina) of the African Methodist Episcopal Church in 1993.  Read More>>>

Our HERStory

 Women with callings to ministry emerged soon after the inception of the African Methodist Episcopal (A.M.E.) Church in 1787.  Jarena Lee, the first preaching woman, was allowed by Richard Allen to preach and was licensed but was refused ordination.  Both women and men sought to persuade the church to recognize the call of women to the preaching ministry.  


In 1844, 1848 and 1852, petitions to the General Conference to license women were rejected, and in 1864 the General Conference let a resolution to license women die. Read More>>>

Membership in AME/WIM means joining your voice with the prophetic voice of others in the African Methodist Episcopal Church in pursuit of parity, justice, and equity for AME clergywomen.
